This sweet little boy in the attached photo, who once i had no idea existed, who i know refer to as.. another member of the family nothing more, nothing less.

My experience with Grand Strand Humane Society when I adopted recently was wonderful. This was my first time adopting from a shelter, and it couldn’t have gone better.

I’ve had many many pets throughout my life till now, from paying $20 for a puppy i picked out of a cardboard box, in the middle of god knows where… to spending way too much on a breeder dog (yes, with papers.. cue the judgmental side-eye at my own self, i know. 🤨😒).

But GSHS made everything different, in the best way. The staff were kind, compassionate, & deeply dedicated to every animal’s wellbeing. They’re not just finding homes, they’re making sure each & every animal is matched with the RIGHT home.

They guided me through every step of the process with patience & care, making me feel confident I was doing the right thing, no doubt. I recommend them 100 times over to anyone in the market for a new member of the fam. They truly go above & beyond to ensure every animal finds love & safety.

Everyone who’s been in his presence since adopting, absolutely adores him. It makes me overjoyed to see him so full of life & the most love you could imagine.
(He does the cutest thing that started a few days ago.. when you glance at him & try & give him a kiss, every single time, he’ll stand on his back legs & grab your face with his front paws to try & bring you closer to reach. 💋
I mean, what more could you want.

Ball of energy & all around perfect.
every day, he’s a constant reminder that some of the purest joys in life come with four paws & a wholeeeee lot of love.

My roommate and I adopted our kitten from here. They were very short staffed but still friendly and doing their best to keep up with people who came to look at the cats. The adoption process was very simple and they gave us all of the information we needed to care for our new furry family member. When we found out he had a cold they were quick to provide medicine for him. He is such a loving little cutie and living his best life.

My boyfriend and I went in to adopt a cat and spoke to multiple different people about a specific kitten we saw. Two different women said the minimum age to take a single cat home was 6 months, and the kitten we were interested in was 6 1/2 months. We explained we don't have any other cats at home, but might have a friend giving us one around 6 months old as well, she went and asked her boss who came out with an attitude saying she was the boss there and they don't budge from the rules. She then stated we can't adopt the kitten because they have to be at least 7 months old, and there was another cat in the cage that had to go with her. They were different breeds, ages, and didn't say on their paperwork that they had to go together. We double-checked the rules on their website, and it states that the minimum age is 6 months. We went in to confront the lady about the rule changes she made, and when we spoke to a volunteer working there, they stated that they constantly change the rules on the fly for no reason, and that it frustrates them as well. We found the lady who lied to us and confronted her. She began saying she only said the cats had to go as a pair, which is a lie because she told us at least 7 months as well. We're very frustrated with the situation because we were approved on the application and were excited to bring a baby home, but because of this interaction, we won't be giving them our time. The "boss" was extremely rude to us when she first came out to speak to us and started making up rules so we couldn't adopt. Volunteers were very helpful, and we appreciate their patience with our questions. Will not be giving any time until the "boss" gets removed from the staff.

Me and girlfriend came to adopt a cat and while looking they said to hold any cats we need to fill out an application and be approved. We did and got approved in minutes. After filling it out we were informed cats under 6 months need to be homed with another kitten which is no issue. The cat we were interested in was just over 6 months and after the amazing volunteer that we had helping ran back and forth multiple times to answer our questions the manager came out with an attitude and changed the rules to say that all cats under 7 months had to go with another. She also added that the cat we were looking at had to be paired with one other cat in the cage that was not related to it and was not even the same age, the cat she said it needed to be with was alone in the cage while the one we looked at was cuddled with a completely different one which we would have certainly considered bringing home if they were too young. We went outside and checked the rules online about adopting a kitten and their website stated that cats under 6 months must go together. Once I went in with this and spoke to another volunteer about it they said and I quote "this happens all the time and it pisses me off" After confronting the manager about it she says she didn't say anything about 7 months and that only those two had to be paired. For a place that wants you to "adopt not shop" they sure do make it hard. She was very rude and we will no longer be interested in working with them unless staffing changes are made.

I went today with my son and his girlfriend. They wanted to adopt a kitten. She was approved to adopt and the one she looked at was over 6 months, so according to their website didn't need to be adopted with another kitten. When we mentioned it the "manager" said no its 7 months and anyway this on is bonded with another and they have to go together. That was never told to us before. I got the feeling she was just making up her own rules as she sent along. For a place that wants to find these animals homes they sure make it hard. I will be reaching out to her supervisor when the main office opens. Very disappointed

The women there were such a big help to me! I had found a Momma dog and her babies using an old chicken enclosure as safety and warmth one morning (one of those 20 degree mornings). I had seen Momma roaming around before but could tell she was nursing and nobody knew where she lived or just didn't want to say. So when she made her way with her babies I went to over 20 different locations to have someone take them and I only stopped here for advice but they so graciously took them! Which was a great thing one because I already have two dogs and 2 because my kids were starting to get attached with all the time we had spent with them that day and we're starting to name them lol. I appreciate them so much!!

Terrible experience, me my mother and my gf went in looking to adopt 2 kittens, and the service from the lady at the front was terrible. we have previously adopted cats before and had dogs that were my sisters that we had to keep when she went to college so they were under my dads name. she was rudely questioning us about them and acted as if we were lying about where those animals may have went, terrible terrible customer service from her and do not recommend going their whatsoever. It is easier to adopt a child than to get a kitten from this place

I agree with the prior reviews for Grand Strand Animal Society. The boss Brittany is rude and judgemental. She makes you adopt two kittens at a time. Some peopledont want two. She made me adopt two Chihuahuas. I only wanted one. It turns out both dogs were not training. They both caused me numerous problems. I had them over a month and a half trying to train them. One day one of them slipped out the no pull leash I brought. She was loose for about 15 minutes in McClaren Park. I was worried she either ran in the street and get hit or go into the lake. After I retrieved her, it was late October and I was a sweaty mess. I drove right back to the shelter and gave them back. Unfortunately, I made a bad comment because.of my frustration. I am now banned from adopting there. I have contributed money. Blankets and food. This woman needs to be replaced. You should be forced to adopt two animals if upu only want one.
